History

Since 1923

We are one of Oklahoma’s oldest charitable

organizations, started in 1923 by women wishing to extend

hospitality to distinguished visitors to the State.

Monthly meetings were held at the Hutchins Hotel,

then the center of social life in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma Hospitality Club (OHC) is a nonprofit 501C

 (3) corporation whose purpose is philanthropic and

charitable.  OHC has raised and given well over one

million dollars to Oklahoma charities.  Its members

have donated thousands of volunteer hours.  Holding

several fundraising activities per year, OHC distributed

$57,000 in grants during its 2018-2019 season to

Oklahoma charitable nonprofits.  OHC members also

serve the community each year by volunteering

numerous hours to such organizations as the Salvation

Army Angel Tree, The Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled,

 Symphony Decorator Show House Fundraiser,

as well as donating in-kind items to women’s shelters,

non-profits helping children, and other local charitable

organizations.  A commendation from Governor Fallin

was presented to OHC on the floor of the Oklahoma

House of Representatives in 2013 for 90 years of

service and philanthropy to our community and state!

In the fall of 1926 the first edition of THE HANDCLASP

newsletter was mailed to the members of the club.  A

charter was granted in 1927 by the Secretary of State

and the first Constitution and Bylaws were made. By this

time the original purpose of the Club was broadened to

include philanthropy, service and education. Membership

rose quickly from the 35 charter members to over 600 by

 1928.

Over the years OHC was involved in many activities and

fundraisers from bridge benefits, teas, rummage sales,

carnivals, cookbooks and even was in charge of the

Inaugural Ball for Gov. Johnston Murray. More recently

the main fundraisers were the Dairy Bar at the

State Fair and our Ladies in the News luncheon and

style show. In addition, we supported other

organizations by ringing the bells for The Salvation Army,

staffed the Symphony’s Decorator Show House, provided

monthly game days for an adult daily living center and

purchased Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children.

Our members today, continue this legacy of nine

decades of warm friendship, hard work, time, talent

and service as we give back to our community in the

form of grants awarded to nonprofits. Over

$1,200,000.00, plus thousands of hours of service has

been given to Oklahoma charities through the years.

Ladies in the News:  For 53 years Oklahoma Hospitality

Club has honored Oklahoma Women during its annual

fundraising event, Ladies in the News (LIN).  Honorees

are recognized for their contributions to their

professions and to their communities. The funds raised

from LIN help support Oklahoma nonprofit charitable

and/or service organizations.  LIN is a luncheon and

style show. This past April, the LIN event raised

$50,000 for its beneficiaries. Each year OHC selects Oklahoma

charities as beneficiaries of LIN. Recent charities benefiting from

this fundraiser include Oklahoma CASA of Oklahoma County,

The Needs Foundation, D-Dent, The Urban Mission, Genesis Project,

Angels Foster Family Network, Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled,

and OKC Metro-Alliance. For 2019 the beneficiaries are YWCA

Emergency Shelter and Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma (Community Programs).
